MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va.(May 9) – This week in soccer, the Quantico Middle/High School Girls Varsity Team, 3-8, had their hands full as they completed against three very tough opponents: Randolph Macon Academy Yellow Jackets, Foxcroft School Eagles and Wakefield Country Day Owls.

On May 3, the Lady Warriors had a match at Quantico against the second seed in their conference, the Yellow Jackets. The Lady Warriors took a one-point lead in the first half of play. But in the end, the Yellow Jackets came back and won, 4-1.

"We have been running our offside trap really well," said Ken Woodie, head coach for the Lady Warriors. "We forced them to take the ball on the outside and we kept them from potential scores many times. But you can't let a good team get too many opportunities before they start getting a couple of scores."

On Friday, the Lady Warriors had their last home game against the Eagles. And the Lady Warriors didn't disappoint their family and friends in attendance as they put the Eagles to rest, winning that match.

"In each game we are getting better and we are gaining more and more game savvy," Woodie said. "I'm real proud of the girls. I thought they battled hard, they were competitive, and they kept that never give up attitude."

Next, the Lady Warriors traveled to Flint Hill for the first round of the Delaney Athletic Conference playoffs against Owls on Tuesday. If the Lady Warriors lost this match it would mean the end of the season for them.

The last time these two teams met back in April, the Owls had no problem dealing with the Lady Warriors beating them, 3-0. But the Warriors hoped to change things this time around. The final score of the game was not ready in time for press deadline.

For information on the outcome of the game against Owls, other Lady Warrior's games or the full schedule for each of the Quantico teams this season, visit the schools' website.
