KLYUCHEVSKOY VOLCANO: 56°03'N, 160°39'E; Elevation 4,750 m
AVIATION COLOR CODE IS ORANGE

Explosive-effusive eruption of the volcano continues. Ash explosions
>10.0 km (>32,800 ft) ASL could occur at any time. The activity of the
volcano could affect international and low-flying aircraft.

Seismicity of the volcano was above background levels all week. Activity
of the volcano increased on August 27. Ash plumes up to 6 km (19,700 ft)
ASL extended about 120 km (73 mi) to the south-east from the volcano.
According to visual data, Strombolian activity of the volcano was
observed on August 27-30. A lava flow continues to descend from the
summit crater down the south-western flank of the volcano. Phreatic
bursts were observed on the south-west slope on August 29-30. According
to satellite data, a big bright thermal anomaly was registered over the
volcano all week. Ash plumes reached 6.5 km (21,300 ft) and extended up
to 278 km (168 mi) to the south-east from the volcano on August 30.

SHEVELUCH VOLCANO: 56°39'N, 161°21'E; Elevation 3,283 m, the dome
elevation ~2,500 m
AVIATION COLOR CODE IS ORANGE

Explosive-extrusive eruption of the volcano continues. Ash explosions
>10 km (>32,800 ft) ASL could occur at any time. The activity of the
volcano could affect international and low-flying aircraft.

Seismicity was above background levels all week, and according to
seismic data, ash plumes up to 6.5 km (21,300 ft) probably occurred
during this week. According to visual data, moderate gas-steam plumes
with ash were observed on August 27-30, clouds obscured the volcano on
the other days of week. According to satellite data, a thermal anomaly
was registered over the lava dome.

KARYMSKY VOLCANO: 54°03'N, 159°27'E; Elevation 1,486 m
AVIATION COLOR CODE IS ORANGE

Explosive activity of the volcano continues. Ash explosions > 6.0 km (or
19,700 ft) ASL could occur at any time. Activity of the volcano could
affect low-flying aircraft.

Seismicity was above background levels all week. According to seismic
data, possibly ash plumes rose up to 3.7 km (12,100 ft) ASL. According
to satellite data, an ash plume extended up to 23 km (14 mi) on August
28, and a thermal anomaly was registered over the volcano during a week.

GORELY VOLCANO: 52°33'N, 158°02'E; Elevation 1,828 m
AVIATION COLOR CODE IS YELLOW

Seismic and thermal activity of the volcano remains high. Probably an
eruption of Gorely is preparing. Aerosol plumes from the volcano could
affect low-flying aircraft.

Seismicity of the volcano was above background levels all week, volcanic
tremor continues to be recorded. According to visual data, moderate
gas-steam activity was observed on August 27-28.

BEZYMIANNY VOLCANO: 55°58'N, 160°36'E; Elevation 2,882 m
AVIATION COLOR CODE IS YELLOW

Grows of the lava dome of the volcano continues and aerosol plumes could
affect low-flying aircraft.

Strong volcanic activity of Klyuchevskoy volcano obscured seismic data
of Bezymianny all week. According to visual data, moderate gas-steam
activity of the volcano was observed on September 01, clouds obscured
the volcano on the other days of week. According to satellite data, the
thermal anomaly was registered on August 29 and September 01, clouds
obscured the volcano during other days.

The Kamchatkan Volcanic Eruption Response Team (KVERT) is a
non-commercial cooperative program of the Alaska Volcano Observatory
(AVO, USA), the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (IVS) FED RAS
and the Kamchatkan Branch of Geophysical Survey (KB GS) RAS (Russia).
KVERT staff is available in the office from 8:30 AM till 6:00 PM (KST or
KDT) and by phone during the evenings. KVERT uses daily satellite
imagery, information from remote scientific observation stations,
real-time seismic data for 10 volcanoes, and other information to
monitor activity at Kamchatkan and Northern Kuriles Volcanoes.

Aviation Color Codes
GREEN
Volcano is in typical background, noneruptive state or, after a change from a higher level, volcanic activity has ceased and volcano has returned to noneruptive background state.
YELLOW
Volcano is exhibiting signs of elevated unrest above known background level or, after a change from a higher level, volcanic activity has decreased significantly but continues to be closely monitored for possible renewed increase.
ORANGE
Volcano is exhibiting heightened or escalating unrest with increased potential of eruption, timeframe uncertain, OR eruption is underway with no or minor volcanic-ash emissions [ash-plume height specified, if possible].
RED
Eruption is imminent with significant emission of volcanic ash into the atmosphere likely OR eruption is underway or suspected with significant emission of volcanic ash into the atmosphere [ash-plume height specified, if possible].
