Early Childhood Education - Resources

Web Resources

The National Institute on Early Childhood Development and Education is housed in the Office of Educational Research and Improvement (OERI) in the U.S. Department of Education. The Institute sponsors comprehensive research designed to help ensure that young children are successful in school and beyond -- and to enhance their quality of life and that of their families. The site provides information about the Institute and the research and development centers it sponsors. It also describes current research projects, provides access to a quarterly newsletter entitled Early Childhood Update, and provides updates on the activities of the ECI Working Group, and lists of related resources and upcoming conferences and events.

Professional Organizations

The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is the nation's largest and most influential organization of early childhood educators and others dedicated to improving the quality of programs for children from birth through third grade.

The purpose of the National Association of Early Childhood Educators (NAECTE) is to promote the professional growth of its membership, to discuss the educational issues that are specific to its membership, and to advocate for improvements in early childhood teacher education.
