Description of Project

The National Capital Planning Commission and the Smithsonian Institution have prepared an Environmental Impact Statement to analyze the construction of the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) on the National Mall on a site bound by Constitution Avenue to the north, Madison Drive to the south, and 14th and 15th Streets to the east and west, respectively.

In accordance with the Council on Environmental Quality’s regulations for implementing the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and NCPC’s Environmental and Historic Preservation Practices and Procedures, this Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) has been filed with the Environmental Protection Agency. The Notice of Availability for the FEIS is scheduled to be announced in the Federal Register on August 19, 2011. The required 30-day waiting period will conclude on September 19, 2011.
