Building permits in March 2012 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 747,000, up 4.5 percent from the revised February rate and up 30.1 percent from March 2011. Housing starts in March 2012 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 654,000, down 5.8 percent from February’s revised estimated but up 10.3 percent from March 2011.

Building permits in February 2012 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 717,000, up 5.1 percent from the revised January rate and up 34.3 percent from February 2011. Housing starts in February 2012 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 698,000, down 1.1 percent from January’s revised estimate but up 34.7 percent from February 2011.

Building permits in January 2012 were 676,000, up 0.7 percent from December and up 19.0 percent from January 2011. Housing starts in January 2012 were 699,000, up 1.5 percent from December and up 9.9 percent from January 2011.

Building permits in December 2011 were 679,000, down 0.1 percent from November but up 7.8 percent from December 2010. During the full year of 2011, permits rose 1.2 percent over 2010. Housing starts in December 2011 were 657,000, down 4.1 percent from November but up 24.9 percent from December 2010. During the full year of 2011, starts increased 3.4 percent over 2010.

Building permits in November ‘11 were 681,000, up 5.7 percent from October ’11 and up 20.7 percent from November ’10. Housing starts were 685,000, up 9.3 percent from the prior month and up 24.3 percent from the prior year.
