Dechlorination Unit
Facilitates Automated Biomonitoring of Chlorinated Water
Aquatic biomonitors can provide continuous, real-time monitoring for toxicity in source water supplies, but they cannot be used to directly monitor chlorinated drinking waters because of aquatic organism sensitivity to residual chlorine. A portable dechlorinator that injects sodium bisulfite into chlorinated product water at a water treatment plant was effective in removing chlorine-related toxicity.
An available technical report (PDF 870 KB) describes research demonstrating the feasibility of using a biomonitor in conjunction with a portable dechlorinator for long-term, continuous monitoring of chlorinated drinking waters.
