Public-use data files for NHES 1999 through 2007 are available by downloading them from the NCES website using the EDAT application. To access the data through EDAT, click here. The EDAT application will ask you to identify the year and survey you want to download. Next, you will be able to select the variables within the file for download. After you have selected the variables for download, EDAT can create the programming code to bring the data into many different statistical analysis packages. Select the download option and indicate the type of file you want to work with (e.g., SPSS, SAS, Stata, R, or SUDAAN). There are also options to keep the data in ASCII format or to bring the data into a comma separated value (CSV) format. For data from prior NHES surveys, CD-ROMS can be ordered free of charge, by clicking on the links below.
