Interactive Database Systems
Surveillance depends on the most accurate and latest data available. The links below point to interactive database systems that contain continuously updated data and provide data reports.
Click on the plus () sign to expand the list of interactive database systems for these topic areas:
- Cancer Query Systems (CANQUES)
Web-based interface that allows you to retrieve the statistics relevant to your research not found in a published format. One can select the type of statistic and stratification variables used in the report; select the format of the report by choosing from various table and graph formats; and extract the statistics, in a delimited format, for further analyses in other software.
- Chronic Disease Indicators
The Chronic Disease Indicators facilitate and standardize surveillance for states, territories and large metropolitan areas.
- State Tobacco Activities Tracking and Evaluation (STATE) System
An electronic data warehouse containing up-to-date and historical state-level data on tobacco use prevention and control. The STATE System is designed to integrate many data sources to provide comprehensive summary data and facilitate research and consistent data interpretation.
- CDC Wonder
WONDER online databases utilize a rich ad-hoc query system for the analysis of public health data. Reports and other query systems are also available. Databases include AIDS public use data, births, cancer statistics, mortality, and population.
- Health Indicators Warehouse (HIW)
A single, user-friendly, source for national, state, and community health indicators, and maintained by the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics.
- Healthy People 2010
Contains the most recent monitoring data for tracking Healthy People 2010. Healthy People 2010 contains 467 objectives that identify specific measures to monitor health in the first decade of the 21st Century.
- Global Health Observatory (GHO)
Theme pages provide data and analyses on global health priorities. Each theme page provides information on global situation and trends highlights, using core indicators, database views, major publications and links to relevant web pages on the theme.
- The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) (Scroll to Interactive Databases)
World's largest, on-going telephone health survey system, tracking health conditions and risk behaviors in the United States yearly since 1984. Currently, data are collected monthly in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Guam.
- Youth Online: High School Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance
Youth Online allows analysis of national, state, and local Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) data from 1991-2009. Data from high school and middle school surveys are included. Filter and sort on the basis of race/ethnicity, sex, grade, or site, create customized tables and graphs, and perform statistical tests by site and health topic.
- MMWR Mortality Tables
As part of its national influenza surveillance effort, CDC receives weekly mortality reports from 122 cities and metropolitan areas in the United States within 2-3 weeks from the date of death. These reports summarize the total number of deaths occurring in these cities/areas each week, as well as the number attributed to pneumonia and influenza. Data are published weekly in Table IV of the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR).
- National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP) Atlas
The NCHHSTP Atlas provides an interactive platform for accessing HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, sexually transmitted disease (STD), and tuberculosis (TB) data. Currently, the atlas provides interactive maps, graphs, tables, and figures showing geographic patterns and time trends of HIV, AIDS, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and primary and secondary syphilis surveillance data.
- National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS) Tables (MMWR Morbidity Tables)
Data for selected nationally notifiable diseases reported by the 50 states, New York City, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories are collated and published weekly in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR).
