About Us

SERVICES

Customers: Our primary customers are American Indian and Alaska Native populations, indirectly, and IHS/tribal/urban clinical staff and Headquarters, as well as tribal epidemiology centers. Other customers served include other federal programs (eg. HHS, NIH, CDC), Congress, state health departments, and nonprofit health organizations that formulate health policy (eg. Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists, National Coalition of STD Directors).

Emerging Opportunities and Innovations: The primary emerging opportunity for the Division lies with the upcoming IHS National Data Warehouse. Our vision for the Data Warehouse is the development of a Public Health Data mart which would then be subdivided into regional data marts thereby providing rapid, easy access to clinical data for the Division and all tribal epidemiology centers. Such access would revolutionize the functioning of this Division and Tribal Epidemiology Centers (TECs) by permitting much greater access to the data for activities such as tracking disease trends, identifying new threats to health, and mining the rich database for previously unrecognized disease risks or successful interventions.
