Capt. Kutilek explains why he wanted to be as far forward on the front lines as possible and why he decided to attend the Citadel. While at the Citadel, he participated in the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps, and he was commissioned as a second lieutenant of Marines upon completion of Officer Candidate School and graduation from the Citadel. Other paths to a Marine commission include the Platoon Leaders Class, the Officer Candidate Course and the Naval Academy.
