Hall of Heroes
The Coast Guard Academy Hall of Heroes was established in April 2005 when the Class of 1959 spearheaded the transformation of the first floor corridor into a prominent, commemorative landmark. Now, the area houses a stately series of signs and memorial plaques honoring heroic U.S. Coast Guard Academy alumni. Since then, the Class of 2009 joined with their Link in the Chain Class to continue an annual tradition honoring the achievements and sacrifices of alumni and former cadets.

The 2012 Hall of Heroes Induction Ceremony will take place on April 20, 2012.

The Hall contains the following sections:

  • The Wall of Remembrance which honors Academy graduates who perished while carrying out an operational mission.
  • The rotating display of the Wall of Gallantry honoring alumni who have been formally recognized for acts of heroic service.
  • The Cadet Memorial Wall which honors individuals that perished while in service as cadets.
  • The Wall of Valor which permanently honors Wall of Gallantry Inductees that have distinguished themselves during operations and have received the Silver Star or higher for their gallantry.
  • And the Heroes of Tomorrow which includes Company photos and a bulletin board dedicated to notable Corps of Cadets news. Postings may include photos, media clippings or letters of commendation and may feature academic, athletic or community service achievement.

Additionally, the Hall of Heroes includes these items of interest: the Coast Guard Creed, the Preamble of the Constitution, the Coast Guard Oath, the Commission Script, a Commandant of Cadets plaque, the colors, a ship’s bell and original framed artwork.

Finally, the Hall of Heroes is also distinguished by its “deck” (floor) on which the pledge of RADM Stephen H. Evans, Academy Superintendent from 1960-1962, is proudly emblazoned: "Who lives here reveres honor, honors duty."
