Satterlee houses the Academy's Computer Science, Humanities, Math and Management departments. Satterlee is named after Captain Charles Satterlee (Class of 1898), Commanding Officer of the USCGC Tampa during World War I. The Tampa was one of many Coast Guard cutters that helped lead convoys across the Atlantic. The Tampa held the record for the greatest number of successful missions when, while off the coast of Great Britain, it was sunk by a German U-boat. All hands were lost. This was the highest-percent loss of life of any naval vessel during the Great War. The small tree planted to the left of Satterlee Hall along Campbell Drive is a memorial to the first Academy graduate to die in the war against drugs.
