PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
The U.S. Coast Guard Academy is devoted not just to the intellectual, character and professional development of cadets, but also to cadets' physical health and wellness. A daily sports period, physical education classes, and required co-curricular physical activity are considered key in the overall development of outstanding leaders.

USCGA offers most mainstream sports and several especially suited to an aquatics-based service academy and boasts an intercollegiate program that is one of the broadest in NCAA Division III with 11 men's, nine women's and three co-educational varsity sports.

USCGA cadets are required to complete health or physical education courses each year as part of the total curriculum and must take a Physical Fitness Exam (PFE) each semester.

HPE staff members also contribute to the intense training of Swab Summer, which prepares incoming cadets for the unique demands of cadet life. Visit the HPE page.
