Our interns participate in a wide range of interesting career fields--from biology to engineering.  Trade the classroom for real life experience as a paid intern.  it's interesting work where you earn while you learn.

Presidential Management Fellow Program

The Presidential Management Internship program (PMI) is a 2-year program sponsored by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).  It is designed to attract outstanding candidates who are ready to enter the work force upon receiving their graduate degrees.  Students participate in a rigorous, competitive nomination process.  The PMI program places strong emphasis on career development in Federal administration and management.  Check out OPM's web site for more information.

Student Career Experience Program

The Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) provides students with the opportunity to earn an income and gain experience while they are in college.  Students may be non-competitively converted to permanent employment upon graduation provided certain criteria are met.

Student Temporary Employment Program

The Student Educational Employment Program provides Federal employment opportunities to students who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment as degree seeking students taking at least a half-time academic, technical, or vocational course load in an accredited high school, technical, vocational, 2 or 4 year college or university, graduate or professional school.

Temporary Internship/Partnership Programs

Through Diversity Partnership Programs, the Department of the Interior recruits college students for semester long and summer internships at bureaus in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area and at field sites across the country. This program provides an opportunity for ethnically diverse college students to experience the wide variety of careers in the Federal sector.

Interns will attend orientation meetings in the Washington, D.C., metro area before traveling to host sites. The sponsoring organizations participating in the program will provide assistance to interns in locating housing near host sties. Travel from the intern's home to orientation, to the hosting site, and return home at the end of the term will be paid by the sponsoring organization.

Compensation, eligibility requirements, and instructions for applying for an internship will be furnished by one of the sponsoring organizations below:

Engineering Internship

Every year the BOEMRE recruitment teams take part in 12 or more "career days or forums" nationwide and recruit students for engineering internships (STEP AND SCEP positions). The program allows engineering students to become familiar with the mission and functions of the BOEMRE Offshore program in the Gulf of Mexico Region and serves as an avenue for recruiting full-tiem engineering positions in the future.  Petroleum, chemical, civil/structural, mechanical, and environmental engineering students may apply.
