MTM Celebrates 2 Million Visas
Consul General Thomas Mittnacht presents a certificate to Santiago Hernandez Mata and his family in appreciation for their help in setting the record of over two million visa applications to the United States in Mexico.
Matamoros has New Consul General
On Friday August 31 Thomas Mittnacht arrived to Matamoros, where he will serve for the next three years as the new Consul General of the United States.
Binational Mural Youth Project
The U.S. Consulate General in Matamoros held an inauguration ceremony July 19,2012, at the Centro de Atención al Menor Fronterizo (CAMEF) for two public works of art created by Matamoros youth and supported by the U.S. Consulate General, the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art, and the DIF system of Matamoros.

Security Message for U.S. Citizens – Kidnapping Threat in Tamaulipas - December 14, 2012
The U.S. Consulate General wishes to remind American citizens of the threat of kidnapping, particularly in the northern areas of the state of Tamaulipas. We remind American Citizens of the advice contained in the U.S. Department of State’s Travel Warning for Mexico to defer non-essential travel to the state of Tamaulipas.

Consulate Reinforces Cultural Ties with Book Donation
Matamoros, Tamaulipas, July 26, 2012 – The U.S. Consulate in Matamoros celebrated its long-standing commitment to strengthen cultural ties between the U.S. and Mexico with a donation of over 1,000 books from the Penguin Classics series to the Prof. Juan B. Tijerina Municipal Library in Matamoros.

Worldwide Caution (July 19, 2012)
The Department of State has issued this Worldwide Caution to update information on the continuing threat of terrorist actions and violence against U.S. citizens and interests throughout the world. U.S. citizens are reminded to maintain a high level of vigilance and to take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness. This replaces the Worldwide Caution dated January 24, 2012, to provide updated information on security threats and terrorist activities worldwide.

Visa Processing Fees Changed on April 13, 2012
Effective April 13, 2012, the Department of State has adjusted visa processing fees. The fees for most nonimmigrant visa applications and Border Crossing Cards has increased, while all immigrant visa processing fees have decreased.

New USCIS Immigration Visa Fee
Effective February 1, 2013, all individuals issued immigrant visas overseas must pay a $165.00 USCIS Immigrant Fee before traveling to the United States. Only prospective adoptive parents whose child(ren) is/are entering the United States under either the Orphan or Hague Process, Iraqi and Afghan special immigrants who were employed by the U.S. government, returning residents, and those issued K visas are exempt from the new fee.
