Nonimmigrant Visas

Information about the procedure to process a visa

The majority of applicants must go to the Applicant Service Center (ASC) before their interview at the Embassy or Consulate. The ASC staff will take each applicant's biometric information, which will then be reviewed by the Consular Section before the visa interview. The Applicant Service Centers are not located in the Embassy or Consulates.

Many applicants renewing their visa will only have to appear at the nearest ASC to present their documents and submit their biometric information and will not have to appear at the Consular Section for an interview with a Consular Officer. These applicants who qualify for this "Interview Waiver" program will be notified when they appear at the ASC.
