Dead Rabbit, a Pub With Serious Cocktails in the FiDi

[Krieger]

Here's a look at the first and second floors of Dead Rabbit, a stylish new pub on Water Street in the Financial District. The two big players here are Sean Muldoon, who previously worked at The Merchant House in Belfast, and Jack McGarry, who tended bar at the London location of Milk & Honey. Muldoon and McGarry are both very respected in the cocktail community, and the bar has already received heaps of press in anticipation of its opening.

If you answered yes to any of these questions, Eater wants to talk.

We're collecting stories about crazy expense account meals and epic high-roller feasts. If you've got a tale to tell about a ridiculous, over-the-top meal, we'd love to share it with the readers of Eater. Anonymity is guaranteed. Paul Liebrandt to Open The Elm in Williamsburg

[Krieger]

Acclaimed fine dining chef Paul Liebrandt is headed to Williamsburg to open a new project in the King & Grove hotel called The Elm. Liebrandt's team sends word that the new restaurant will open this spring. The chef notes: "I'm excited about Brooklyn and look forward to doing something very different from what we're doing at Corton." He will remain the chef/partner at Corton, his two Michelin star restaurant in Tribeca.

Presumably, The Elm will not be a fine-dining establishment like Corton. The restaurant will most likely occupy the space that once housed Pillar & Plough. More details as they become available.

Short on Funds, the Fate of Totonno's Remains Uncertain

2012_12_Totonnos.jpgBack in December, it was reported that the famed Coney Island pizzeria Totonno's could reopen by the middle of this month after being completely destroyed by Hurricane Sandy's floodwaters in October. Now, however, according to Slice's latest update on the pizzeria, there's a danger that it won't be able to reopen.

The big issue is, not unexpectedly, money. Co-owner Antoinette Balzano says that they've applied for both a $150,000 SBA loan and a $25,000 emergency loan from the New York City Business Development Corporation. That NYCBDC loan was denied, however, because the pizzeria is still paying off debt from its last rebuilding process, after that devastating fire in 2009. On top of that, Balzano says, a number of contractors are attempting to fleece the pizzeria out of thousands of dollars, taking money but then never completing work.

It sounds like there's still a chance that SBA loan could come through, and Balzano tells Slice, "I don't know if we'll be able to reopen without" it.

Wythe Hotel Will Soon Have a Noisy Neighbor, Output

2012_outpost_brooklyn1234.jpgA monster club is slated to open in Williamsburg soon. It sits right next door to Andrew Tarlow's hip and wildly popular Wythe Hotel. Here are the specs:

· The name is "Output"
· 452 person-capacity main club
· A back room and rooftop area
· High-end "Funktion One" speakers
· Full bar
· Some type of dining component
· Techno and house music
· That name again is "Output"
The people behind Output are planning to build up the hype for this project by hosting a Bunker party on February 22. Will Output and the Wythe Hotel coexist on the same block, in perfect harmony? Or will the technoheads clash with the hipsters that frequent Reynard and The Ides? Only time will tell.

Storm-Affected Steve's Key Lime Pie to Relocate in April

steveskeylime.jpgSteve's Authentic Key Lime Pie in Red Hook was severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy. The space took on several feet of water, and much of the shop's inventory was destroyed. The company was able to reopen in December, but now DNAinfo learns that owners Steve Tarpin and Victoria Gomez plan to move their operation to a brand new space in the neighborhood.

The new facility inside Pier 40 is three times bigger than the current one in Pier 41. Tarpin and his wife ultimately decided that it would be better to spend their money on a new facility than to rebuild the old one. Tarpin explains:

The opportunity came up for us to make the move, and there were some very compelling reasons to do this...We already have a letter of intent from our landlord for something that will secure us for the next decade.
Tarpin and Gomez started a Go Fund Me campaign after the storm to raise money for renovations. So far, people have donated over $12,000. They plan to move on April 1.
