Assistant Secretary to Moderate Panel on Physical Education and Adaptive Techniques for Students with Disabilities

U.S. Assistant Secretary for the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services Alexa Posny will help commemorate May as National Physical Fitness and Sports Month during a roundtable discussion on physical education and adaptive techniques for students with disabilities at Oxon Hill Elementary School Wednesday, May 25 in Oxon Hill, Md.

Following a physical education class that includes students with disabilities led by Oxen Hills’ physical education teacher Bobby Coates and adaptive physical education teacher Andrew Dalton, Alexa will moderate a panel on physical instruction for students with disabilities. In addition to Coates and Dalton, key panelists will include Andrea Cernich, director of strategic partnerships, President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition; Karen Lynch, chief of student services, Prince Georges County Public Schools (PGCPS), Amy Wiley, director of physical education, PGCPS; Joan Rothgeb, director of special education, PGCPS; Cynthia Best-Goring, principal, Oxon Hill Elementary and several parents of students with disabilities. Following the demonstration and panel, Posny and others will also participate in the class activities. Finally, Posny, Best-Goring, Lynch and Cernich will hold a media availability at 11:20 a.m. EDT.
