Deputy Assistant Secretary to Deliver Commencement Address for Columbia Gorge Community College

Frank Chong, deputy assistant secretary for the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Vocational and Adult Education, will deliver Columbia Gorge Community College’s commencement address at 3 p.m. Friday, June 10, on The Dalles campus. During his address, Chong will emphasize the need for our nation’s youth to pursue career paths that bring about positive change in the world.

Education, Agriculture Officials to Discuss Federal Support for Rural Schools at Rural State School Chiefs Meeting in Big Sky, Montana

The U.S. Department of Education’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Rural Outreach, John White, will join the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Under Secretary for Rural Development, Cheryl Cook, in Big Sky, Mont. June 8-9 to brief rural state school chiefs on how the two Departments are working together to increase awareness of federal resources available to support high-need rural schools.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will give remarks at the Department’s first-ever Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) youth summit at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, at the Washington Court Hotel in Washington, D.C. The two-day summit, “Creating and Maintaining Safe and Supportive Environments for LGBT Youth,” will take place Monday-Tuesday, June 6-7.
