When was the last time you gave any thought to kindness? It's the big topic this week in our neck of the woods. http://bit.ly/EQbWb

Today is international surprise day for me. First, my Feb. 9 blog on the Grand Slam breakfast give-away was translated and published by Irene Voulgaris (a Greek writer with her own blog: www-voulgari.blogspot.com). Then Egyptian novelist, Zahra Youssry, asked to be my facebook friend. Both women found me through scribd. How cool is that!

Hello luddite! You know what? I think we all should become "luddites", leave big cities and go back to the countryside to cultivate some vegetables, get some hens with real chicks and ducks and try to live in the simple way our ancestors lived. Then, we wouldn't depend on food coupons or "social security" etc. Irene Voulgaris (www.scribd.com/Eιρήνη Βούλγαρη) on scribd

Read what happened at our house when winter storms knocked out the electricity and we had to build our own fire to keep warm.

Did you use Green River flint, steel, char-cloth, a bird's nest made of sisal, and a blow tube? The good old days!

I was once told that love is a verb. It is action. And your poem shows in lovely, concrete detail both the action, and the caring heart from which the action springs. I'm glad I had a chance to read your work. Thanks.

Free Grand Slam breakfast on the day Michelle Obama kicks off her project to end childhood obesity. How ironic is that? Grand Slam was a good excuse to have a party in these poverty stricken parts. http://bit.ly/EQbWb

California mountain lions share our property. Their beauty adds to our pleasure. But the deer don't particularly like them. http://bit.ly/EQbWb

Beautiful, just beautiful, Gerald. Truthful. Pain leading to understanding leading to love which always leads to forgiveness. thank you for posting such excellent, passionate work here so I could read it and be renewed!

Hardluck Lin, created and brought to life by historian, author and superb storyteller Linda Clark, is chuck-full of Gold Rush yarns that really happened. If you ever get a chance to catch one of her performances, do not miss it.

We're watching (guess what) the Super Bowl. I can't believe the sexist commercials. Have we suddenly been transplanted to the early 1960s? What's with all that?

BarbaraAlfaro Replied:

I'm watching too. Most of the ads are either meanspirited or sexist or both. Ugh!

Dear Scribd Mates, I'm doing a bit of scribd research and invite you to be part of it. If you'd like to tell me 1. how you learned about scribd and when, 2. why and how you got started with scribd, 3. what has come of your scribd involvement, etc. I would be most grateful. I've set up an email account just to hear your stories: thescribdluddite@gmail.com I'd love to hear from you. Thanks.
