Residential Recycling Guidelines

This image shows a recycling bin containing bottles and cans, a paper bag with paper recycling and corrugated cardboard that has been flattened to less than 2 feet by 2 feet, and tied with string. The link takes you to more images.

Current recycling guidelines:

  • Place your recycling at the curb by 6:30 a.m.
  • Keep your recycling about 5 feet away from your garbage, if they are collected on the same day.
  • Remove all food wastes from recyclables before placing them in the recycling cart.
  • Place all recyclables in the recycling cart, no sorting is required.
  • Flatten corrugated cardboard and place in your recycling cart. If you have more than what will fit inside the recycling cart, cut or fold it to 2 feet by 2 feet, and tie it into manageable bundles with string or twine and place next to your recycling cart.
  • Avoid putting items the following items in your cart:

    Plastic bags

    Styrofoam

    Pizza delivery boxes

    Broken glass

    Coat hangers

    Helium containers

    Yard trimmings

    Any household hazardous waste

  • Extra recycling can be placed in a cardboard box.

  • Only recycle the following items. For more detailed information, click on the listed items.
