What does CERT do in Killeen

What does CERT do in Killeen?

Killeen
has not had many disasters over the years, so you might think that a CERT member would not have much to do, other than attending meetings. But that could not be further from the truth.

Energency Response

Bringing it closer to home:

  • Fall 2008 Hurricane Ike - evacuees came from Houston and Galveston to Killeen. CERT volunteers assisted in inprocessing displaced individuals and families and assigning temporary shelters.
  • Spring 2007 floods - heavy rains saturated the ground. Low lying areas were flooded, people had to evacuate their homes; flooded roads halted traffic. The CERT team could assist in traffic control, searching for people lost in the floods, manning the evacuation shelter.
  • During the Luby's shooting on 16 Oct 91, CERT members would have been called to render first aid, direct news media traffic, help survivors cope with what they had just experienced.
  • During the Jarrell, TX Tornado of 27 May 97, CERT members would have been called to assist in the clean up.
  •  During fires or large accidents, we may be called to assist in traffic control, lending a helping hand, or assist in any way we can.

There is so much a CERT member can do to help in their community.
