Shelter hours of operations and fees

Animal Control is open 7 days a week
Animal Control Officers respond to calls between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Only emergencies will be taken between 6 pm and 7 am.

Animals can be adopted at the shelter from 11:00am to 4:00pm Monday - Friday, and 12:00 to 5:00 Saturday and Sunday. Citizens will be required to bring a government issued picture I.D. The fee for adopting dogs, cats, puppies or other animals is $25.00 for non-sterilized animals, $50 for sterilized animals. A contract agreement to get the rabies vaccination and to have the animal sterilized (if unaltered) is required.

Bandit, the Pound Pup - a Happy Ending linkAnimals that have been picked up and brought to the shelter can be redeemed by the owner from 11-4 pm, Monday-Friday; 12 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday - 7 days a week. To reclaim pets, the owner shall pay a fee ($20.00 for the first incident, which increases with each repetition) , $40.00 for the 2nd, and $100.00 for each subsequent incident.

Farm animals, can be found through the Bell County Sheriff's office.


Owner released animals are accepted at the animal shelter  MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY ONLY during regular business hours. The release fee for residents of the City of Killeen is $30.00 and for non-residents is $40.00 and must be paid in cash. A current government issued picture I.D. is required.

All cats and dogs must be vaccinated against rabies after they reach three months and before they reach four months of age, and must be vaccinated annually.

Animal Control Licenses are required for all dogs and cats kept within the City of Killeen. The rabies vaccination is a pre-requisite for the License Application. The license can be obtained from the Killeen Animal Shelter, local veterinary clinics or at the permits counter at City Hall. We deal with all sorts of animals, including snakesThe License Application fee is $10.00 for unsterilized animals and $5.00 for sterilized animals with proof of sterilization. The license expires annually at the same time the rabies shot expires.
