City Attorney's Office

The City Attorney's Office is the legal office for the City of Killeen government. The office is staffed by the City Attorney, a Deputy City Attorney, three Assistant City Attorneys, and two support/clerical persons.

The mission of this department is to provide quality legal services, advice, and representation to the City Council, City Manager, and the other City departments. This means they are involved in such varied activities as: land acquisition for streets, fire stations, and parks; employment policies and issues at the City of Killeen; handling claims against the City; reviewing and negotiating contracts; environmental issues; aviation regulations; managing risk and liability issues of all kinds; and general legal representation. While the legal staff sometimes gets involved with citizens who have a problem with the City, they cannot provide legal advice to citizens about personal legal matters.

These attorneys believe they best serve the client by being proactive. This means they familiarize themselves with all aspects of the client's operations so as to anticipate possible problems before they arise and intervene at the early stages of a dispute when reasonable resolution is most likely to occur. While this requires a high degree of dedication, energy, and initiative, it is in the finest tradition of the legal profession's commitment to service in the community.

All attorneys are licensed to practice law in Texas and are members of the Texas City Attorney's Association. Some hold special law licenses to practice in federal court and, each is a member of special organizations pertinent to his or her assigned area of responsibility. Their professionalism is recognized across the state as they are often asked to speak at attorney conferences, write legal articles, and participate in planning legal training activities.
