The Austin Parks and Recreation Department has over 400 full-time permanent employees. These jobs range from administrative, skilled labor,
unskilled labor to recreation management, coordination and supervision.
If you like to work outside, you might be intersted in working in our
Operations Division to help maintain our parks and facilities.

The Austin Parks and Recreation Department provides
internships for undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in a two or four-year accredited college or university.
The Internship Program is designed to bridge the gap between formal academic training and practical work experience. Interns are integrated into the workforce and become engaged in daily issues confronting professional staff in a public sector setting. Internship opportunities can be paid or unpaid depending on the nature and length of the internship, and academic requirements of the student intern.

Austin Parks and Recreation Department has a wide variety of
activities and facilities to meet the needs of its citizens.
Free and/or fee based programs and activities are offered at
the these facilities.
Positions are available throughout the
year at the Recreation Centers,
the
Dougherty Arts Center the
Austin Nature and Science Center and to maintain and operate
our 47 pools.
In addition, positions are available in parks maintenance,
park operations,
golf course maintenance,
golf course operation and facility maintenance
areas.
During the summer months the Department hires over 1000 employees
to work with youth and teens in stuctured programs
and activities, one of these programs is the
Summer Playground Program. In addition, employees to maintain and
operate our 48 aquatic facilites and employees to maintain our parks,
facilities and golf course during this peak season.
