The Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS) was created in 1947 to oversee retirement benefits for State of Texas employees.
In addition to retirement benefits, ERS now administers the Texas Employees Group Benefits Program (GBP), TexFlex and Texa$aver programs. The GBP is the group insurance plan (health, dental, life and disability); TexFlex is the federal program which allows employees to set aside pre-tax money for day care and health expenses; and Texa$aver is a voluntary retirement savings program that allows employees to grow their own savings with pre-tax money in a 401(k) or 457 plan.
