Act

Act means the Texas Employees Group Benefits Act (Chapter 1551 of the Texas Insurance Code).

Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D)

Insurance coverage for active employees that provides benefits to beneficiaries if the employee suffers certain accidental injuries or an accidental death. Coverage of $5,000 of AD&D is included with health insurance.

active account

Status of an FSA account of a TexFlex participant who is an active employee, or is in leave of absence status, retired, or has ended employment, and has paid his or her annual pledge in full as of August 31.

active employee benefits

Benefits offered to an active employee. When a return-to-work (RTW) retiree comes back to work, he or she can choose active employee benefits or continue with retiree benefits.

Activities of Daily Living

Individuals covered under long-term care insurance must need assistance from another person for at least 2 activities of daily living before the policy begins to pay benefits. The six ADLs are:

  • Bathing
  • Dressing
  • Eating
  • Maintaining continence
  • Toileting
  • Transferring

adjunct faculty

Teaches on a contract basis at a higher education institution.

Aetna Dental HMO

A dental plan offered through Aetna Dental, Inc. and requires you to use a dental provider from the Aetna Dental provider network. Effective until August 31, 2009.

Alternative care facility

A facility that provides is 24-hour Custodial Care.

annual pledge

Annual contribution amount selected by a participant of FSA-Day Care and/or FSA–Health.

annuity

Retirement account set up to pay a monthly amount to a retiree.

annuity payment

Monthly payment received by a retired member of a retirement plan. ERS members must meet retirement program age and service credit eligibility criteria to receive payments.
