- Judy Dixon's Collection of Braille
and Tactile-writing Slates - Judy Dixon has created a web site for
her collection of braille and tactile-writing slates. In addition to details
on the 190 different slates from 25 countries, she has also created a "special
exhibit" entitled "Reviving the Braille Slate" with descriptions
and photos of various aspects of braille slates--hinges, pins, special
features, etc. to illustrate how slates might be manufactured less expensively
and made easier to use and of more practical value. Judy hopes that this
review will help inspire some creative thought about slate design and use
and will give those interested in braille slates some basic information
to encourage slate manufacturers to take a fresh look at braille slates
as a vital literacy tool for blind persons.
