The Advanced Light
Sources at the Berkeley Lab produces the world's brightest "soft"
X-ray and ultraviolet light, serving scientists in many fields to
look at the surface of metals or deep inside living cells.
History
of Los Alamos National Laboratory
From
the earliest days, Livermore's scientists and engineers recognized
the premier importance of computing power in a research and development
facility. The first commercial computer produced in quantity, the
Univac I was the Livermore lab's first electronic brain (1953).
