2010 FLC AWARDS - CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2010 FLC Awards. Since its inception in 1984 the FLC Awards have become one of the most coveted honors in the technology transfer field, with nearly 200 Federal laboratories honored for their work in projects that advance the mission of technology transfer. Because the technology transfer efforts of the FLC are diverse in their scope and large in number, there are five categories of awards that are presented:
Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer
The FLC Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer recognizes science and technology employees in FLC laboratories who have accomplished outstanding work in the process of transferring federally developed technology. A panel of experts from industry, state and local government, academia, and the federal laboratory system judge the nominations.
Service Awards
The FLC Service Awards recognize individuals involved in technology transfer activities that have provided noteworthy support to the technology transfer process, furthering the mission of the FLC. Selected by FLC and Federal Agency Representatives, Regional Coordinators, and Executive Board Members, three types of Service Awards are presented, including:
Harold Metcalf Award, which recognizes sustained significant service from an FLC laboratory employee to the FLC as an organization.
Representative of the Year, given to the FLC Representative who has made the most significant contribution to the FLC program in the past year.
Outstanding Service Award, honoring the individual who is not an FLC Representative for a notable contribution to the FLC in terms of sustained support or service.
Interagency Partnership Award
The FLC Interagency Partnership Award recognizes agency and/or laboratory employees from at least two different agencies who have collaboratively accomplished outstanding work in transferring a technology.
Outstanding Technology Transfer Professional Award
The FLC Outstanding Technology Transfer Professional Award recognizes the efforts of a technology transfer professional (or team) who has demonstrated outstanding work in transferring a technology. Those who are involved thoroughly with the technology transfer process but are not recognized by the FLC Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer-including Technology Transfer Program Managers, Office of Research and Technology Application (ORTA) Representatives, and Commercialization Managers-are considered for this award.
Laboratory Director of the Year Award
The National Advisory Council of the FLC honors Laboratory Directors who have made maximum contributions to the overall enhancement of technology transfer for economic development. Accomplishments related to the transfer of technology from the federal laboratory to industry-including support of FLC activities, internal accomplishments, industry involvement, and community service-are the primary criteria for the award.
NOTE: The Laboratory Director of the Year Award call for nominations will be announced at a later date.
