Training for Collaborations / Locating Noncustodial Parents

In some cases, finding the noncustodial parent, whose whereabouts may be unknown, is the first step to starting the process of establishing and collecting child support.

  • The State and Federal Parent Locator Service (FPLS) provides information to locate parents, their income and assets, even if they have moved out of the State or country.
  • State law requires that employers must report newly hired personnel; these names are added to the databases.
  • If there is concern for personal safety because the noncustodial parent is believed to be dangerous, there are safeguards that can be put in place to protect the custodial parent and child.
