 Major Actions Taken to Date:
  • Michigan received $1.7 million in economic recovery funds to improve water quality
  • U.S. EPA, Campo Band of Mission Indians, Indian Health Service celebrate more than $1.6 million in drinking water infrastructure improvements
  • EPA announces $93.7 million Recovery Act funds for wastewater infrastructure projects in Pennsylvania to boost economy, create jobs and protect the environment
  • On August 4, 2009, EPA announced $6.8 million in ARRA funding for Brownfields Job Training cooperative agreements; funding will be used to teach environmental assessment and cleanup skills to individuals living in areas near brownfield sites
  • On August 4, 2009, EPA announced $42 million in ARRA funding for supplemental Brownfields Revolving Loan Fund cooperative agreements; funding will provide revolving loans and subgrants to help communities clean up contaminated sites for redevelopment, and create jobs for people living near brownfield sites
  • EPA awarded $7.7 million in ARRA funding to the states/territories of Connecticut, Virginia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands; funding will be used to either oversee or directly pay for assessing and cleaning up leaking underground storage tanks, which will boost local economies while also protecting public health and the environment.   • EPA awarded a total of $7.4 million in Superfund ARRA funds to 2 sites: Ottati & Goss (NH) and Garland Creosoting (TX); funds will be used to initiate new construction or accelerate ongoing cleanup activities at these sites, boosting the local economy while also protecting public health and the environment.  Major Planned Actions:
  • Over the next week, EPA plans to award up to 22 additional grants and contracts across the EPA ARRA programs, totaling over $74 million. New Jersey and Minnesota will receive ARRA Water State Revolving Fund resources (approximately $43.9 million). Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Texas (2 awards) will receive over $5.9 million in National Clean Diesel Funding Assistance. Massachusetts will receive $3.1 million under the Leaking Underground Storage Tank Trust Fund Program. Pennsylvania (2 awards), Ohio, Minnesota (4 awards), Missouri (2 awards), Colorado, South Dakota, and Utah will receive $4.1 million in ARRA Brownfield Assessment and Cleanup resources. Texas and New York will receive over $17 million for Superfund site cleanup
