On July 30, 2009 the United States became one of 142 other countries that have signed the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
President Obama's statement on this landmark legislation that established a clear mandate against discrimination on the basis of disability. The President also announced that the United States will sign the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The National Council on Disability (NCD) is seeking people with disabilities, individuals representing grassroots organizations and others to help shape disability policies and programs for the next decade. Deadline for submitting application to attend the summit is October 15, 2009.
