Quality control
Objective automated quality control algorithms were developed and incorporated for the maximum sustained wind and minimum central pressure for each tropical cyclone and time step. Thresholds of rapid intensification were used for the maximum sustained wind (30 kt in 24 hr), and a base cut-off of 50 hPa was used for minimum central pressure changes in 6-hr time steps. The result was an objective, rigorous quality control scheme that flagged only the absolute worst errors in the best track data. These errors were retained in the final data, but quality flags have been assigned to indicate to the user that the data point is suspect.
