CALLING PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES TO PUBLIC SERVICE
How is a person with a disability defined?
- A person who has a permanent, severe, physical or mental
impairment that substantially limits one or more of his/her major life activities.
- A person who has a history of such an impairment.
- Disabilities may include mental retardation, psychiatric
disorders, muscular or neurological limitations, and invisible (hidden) disabilities
such as lupus, fibromyalgia, AIDS, diabetes, epilepsy, heart disease, and
asthma.
When will jobs be available?
Every day the Federal Government has more than 15,000 vacancies
worldwide. You can find information, get application forms, apply online, and
receive job email notices by accessing the Federal Governments official
job information system, .
Where can I get additional guidance?
- University career centers and disability resource centers
may have additional program information on internships and Federally sponsored
student recruitment programs and related jobs.

Placement Program Coordinator (SPPC) (or equivalent)
or agency recruiter can provide you with employment opportunity information.
The SPPC is familiar with various hiring authorities available to be used
to employ people with disabilities. The SPPC is located in the Human Resources
or Equal Employment Opportunity office of each Federal agency.
