OBJECTIVE: Facilitate hazardous fuel removal.
DESCRIPTION: This project provides a chipper, splitter, and crew with no cost to residents in order to encourage the removal of hazardous fuels and creation of defensible space around homes and community structures. Funding for this project includes equipment ($20K) and operations ($20) for the Muir Beach Chipping Program for Fiscal Year (FY) 2001. In FY 2002, $16,400 was provided to purchase equipment, i.e., saws, winch & supplies, brush cutter, dump trailer, and protective gear.
The community of Muir Beach has a population of 500 and approximately 165 homes.
