How to Sponsor

To sponsor a chemical in any tier of the VCCEP pilot, a company must submit to EPA a written commitment to develop and make publicly available certain data related to the health effects, exposures, and risks to children.

When will EPA accept VCCEP Pilot commitment letters?

EPA accepted commitment letters from sponsoring companies for Tier 1 of the VCCEP Pilot until the deadline of June 25, 2001. If the Agency determines that additional information is needed to fully characterize a chemical's risks to children, it will make a public announcement to that effect and will request that companies volunteer to provide the additional information. Any company may sponsor a chemical in an upper tier, even though it has not sponsored that particular chemical in Tier 1. EPA will accept commitment letters from companies volunteering to sponsor upper tiers of VCCEP for four months after each announcement.

What does the commitment letter need to provide?

The commitment letter must provide:

Company or consortium of companies sponsoring the chemical
Name and Chemical Abstract Service Registry Number (CAS No.) of the chemical being sponsored
Start date for the development of the necessary information
Anticipated date for the submission assessments to EPA
Name, address, e-mail address, telephone, and FAX numbers of a technical contact.

How and to Whom Do I Submit a Commitment Letter?

A commitment letter to sponsor a chemical(s) may be mailed or sent by courier to EPA. To ensure proper receipt by EPA, it is imperative that you identify docket control number EPA-HQ-OPPT-00274D in the subject line on the first page of your letter.
