The Fire Consultation branch of the New Mexico Ecological Services Field Office reviews hazardous fuels treatment
projects (e.g., mechanical thinning, prescribed burns) proposed by Federal, State, and local agencies to determine
their effects on listed and proposed species in accordance with section 7 of the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as
amended (16 U.S.C. 1531 et seq.). The long-term strategy for these projects is to minimize risks to endangered
species while protecting public safety and private property.
