Sector-Specific Guidance
The Sector-Specific Core Modules pertain to process emissions for specific industry sectors. The following Sector-Specific Core Modules have been developed:
- Direct Emissions From Municipal Solid Waste Landfilling (PDF) (27 pp, 1.1 MB): This module is used to identify and estimate direct greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (methane) from decomposing waste in owned or operated sites. Updated October 2004
- Direct HFC and PFC Emissions From Manufacturing Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Equipment (PDF) (14 pp, 800K, About PDF): This module is used to identify and estimate GHG direct hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) and perfluorocarbon (PFC) emissions resulting from commercial refrigeration and air conditioning. This guidance addresses emissions from operating commercial equipment, including service, disposal, and retrofit emissions. Draft, Updated June 2003
- Direct Emissions From Iron and Steel Production (PDF) (17 pp, 117K): This module is used to identify and estimate direct GHG emissions (carbon dioxide) from oxidation of the reducing agent and flux used in steel production and from the removal of carbon from the iron ore; it is separate from combustion emissions. Draft, Updated June 2003

Climate Leaders Partners should refer to Climate Leaders specific guidance for their applicable emissions sources, where it exists. In addition, several industry sectors have developed GHG accounting protocols specific to their sector; these can be found at the GHG Protocol Initiative Web site. These sector-specific protocols may be used where Climate Leaders guidance does not exist. Below are draft Climate Leaders reviews of several sector-specific protocols and guidance on how to use them in conjunction with Climate Leaders guidance:

These protocols are in draft form and will be finalized in fall 2009.
Climate Leaders Partners may wish to expand the boundaries of their GHG inventory beyond core emissions to include other optional emission and reduction sources.
