U.S. Labor Department Seeks Public Comments on Mental Health Parity & Addiction Equity Act of 2008

The U.S. Departments of Labor, Treasury and Health & Human Services have published a request for information (RFI) soliciting public comments before developing rulemakings on group health plans. The public may submit comments electronically by email to E-OHPSCA.EBSA@dol.gov or through Regulations.gov. Comments are due by May 28, 2009.

Seeking Comment to Proposed Guidelines for Assessment of & Intervention with Individuals Who Have Disabilities

American Psychological Association's (APA) Task Force on Guidelines for Assessment and Treatment of Persons with Disabilities is seeking comment on proposed guidelines. This 90-day period for receipt of comments will end on July 31, 2009.

The 2009 Voice Awards ceremony will take place at Paramount Studios in Hollywood, CA, on October 14, 2009. The event will bring together people from the entertainment industry and mental health consumer and advocacy communities for a night that celebrates increased awareness of mental health issues and the power of recovery. The Voice Awards honor writers and producers who incorporate dignified, respectful and accurate portrayals of individuals with mental health problems into film and television productions.

National Council on Disability (NCD) Releases Annual Report

On March 31, 2009 NCD released its annual report to the President and Congress calling for a new integrated approach to disability policy within the federal government. The report looks at many issues including access to health care, housing and technology, and negative public attitudes and stereotypes about people with disabilities.
