Federal Career Intern Program
The Federal Career Intern Program at the EPA OIG is a comprehensive, entry-level employment and career development program designed to recruit and nurture the next generation of OIG leaders. The program offers permanent, full-time positions. As an OIG intern, you will participate in an intensive 2-year program that will “jump start” your career with us and develop your potential for future advancement within the organization. Key developmental components of the program are:
- An Orientation Conference in Washington, DC, to familiarize new interns with the OIG, the Agency, and each other.
- A rotational assignment (usually 90 days) to a different part of our organization, or to EPA or another Federal agency. If the rotation is to a different geographic location, we will pay necessary travel and temporary duty expenses.
- An Individual Development Plan to serve as a road map for your professional and personal development during the program and beyond.
- Formal classroom training of at least 80 hours per year to enhance your leadership skills, technical proficiency, and advancement potential.
- Ongoing on-the-job training, mentoring, career development, and performance feedback.
Generally, as an intern, you will start at the GS-9 salary level, depending on your qualifications, earning as much as $42,000 per year. After a year, you may be eligible for promotion.
