Viewing Files in your Browser
Helper Applications
Your browser brings files to your computer using various server protocols such as HTTP,
NNTP, SMTP, and FTP. Each protocol can support different file formats.
Your browser has the built-in capability to interpret and display on your computer
several formats. When your browser retrieves a file which is not in html format and it
cannot read the file, your browser attempts to use a helper application or plug-in capable
of reading the file.
Your browser will have an option that allows you to set which applications to use for
each file format it will come across. To learn how to set up these helper applications, go
to your help option on your browser.
