Office Overview
The United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Kentucky seeks to serve the citizens with the highest standards of professionalism, courage and integrity, and to represent the federal government in virtually all of the trial work in which the United States is a party.
Congress has given United States Attorneys three statutory responsibilities: (1) the prosecution of criminal cases brought by the Federal Government; (2) the prosecution and defense of civil cases in which the United States is a party; and (3) the collection of debts owed the Federal government which are administratively uncollectible. 28 U.S.C. § 507.
The United States Attorney's Office also responds to the public safety needs of the community by leading an effective, well-coordinated law enforcement effort that contributes to the overall goal of improving the quality of life in the Western District of Kentucky.
The United States Attorneys Office for the Western District of Kentucky has its main office located in Louisville with unstaffed branch offices located in Owensboro and Bowling Green and a staffed office in Paducah. There are over 70 employees located at the Louisville office, and three employees working in Paducah. In addition, there are Special Assistant United States Attorneys who serve a limited amount of time at the Fort Campbell and Fort Knox offices.
