U.S. Supreme Court to Consider Hearing City of San Leandro vs. International Church of the Foursquare Gospel

The City of San Leandro has filed a Petition for Certiorari with the United States Supreme Court to hear the case between the City and the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel regarding the City's denial of the Church’s request to occupy a property in San Leandro which is zoned for industrial use.  If the petition is approved, the case will be heard by the U.S. Supreme Court during its next term.  For more information on the petition, please go to the City Council’s webpage and select the link for Litigation.

As part of the City's project to develop a Broadband strategy, the City will hold two public workshops for San Leandro business owners, commercial landlords, property owners, and real estate brokers to get feedback on the availability of broadband internet service to commercial properties.  City staff wishes to learn of any difficulties local businesses are experiencing in obtaining broadband as well as desired service improvements.  The meetings are scheduled for: 

  • Tuesday, July 19, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.
    San Leandro Senior Community Center
  • Tuesday, July 26, 8:00 - 9:00 a.m.
    Davis Street Transfer Station Education Center
    2516 Davis Street

In addition, San Leandro businesses are encouraged to complete a short online survey on broadband availability at www.sanleandro.org/broadband.

DIY Energy Efficiency Class (Note location change to Council Chambers)

Our next DIY class will be held on Wednesday, July 27, at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The class is two and a half hours long and provides information to homeowners about how they can improve the efficiency of their homes. All San Leandro residents that participate in the class are eligible for an in-home assessment to pinpoint areas for improvement. Residents that make a 15% improvement, verified by a (free) second test, can receive up to $400.00 reimbursement for their material costs.  Registration is required.  Please call (510) 577-3405

Community Development Update - July 2011

The second-quarter of 2011 has brought positive news to San Leandro in the form of reduced unemployment and new development proposals. Unfortunately, recent legislation on the State level eliminating redevelopment agencies will significantly impact San Leandro's local funding for economic development and affordable housing.

New SLPD Online Police Reporting

The San Leandro Police Department has launched an online reporting service that enables the members of the community to complete an online form to report nonviolent and "cold" complaints or crimes.  This will allow residents and visitors to avoid going to the police station or waiting on the phone to file a non-emergency crime report or crime tip. To go directly to the SLPD website for more information, click File a Police Report.

Downtown Farmers' Market Every Wednesday Through October 19

The Downtown Farmers' Market returns to Parrott Street at East 14th Street for a 4th season, beginning on Wednesday, April 20, two weeks earlier than in previous years.  The seasonal market will occur weekly on Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. through October 19.

In partnership with the City of San Leandro and PG&E, the California Youth Energy Services Program will be serving San Leandro homeowners and renters this summer with FREE Green House Calls.  Green House Calls are energy efficiency retrofits performed by professionally-trained local youth Energy Specialists. This FREE service will help you save money on your energy and water bills while supporting local youth and sustainability efforts.
