Boy Scouts - Indian Lore Merit Badge

Program Length: about 3 hours

This program meets the requirements of the BSA Indian Lore merit badge.  There is a merit badge counselor on staff to sign the boys' blue cards.  (Badges are the responsibility of the troop.)

There is a $5 per scout fee for the program.  Adults - 16 and over - pay the $5 park entrance fee.

Brownie – Try-it “Listening to the Past” Badge

Program length: about 1 ½ hours

The girls will have a great time as they visit the historic stagecoach stop on the old National Road – the Mount Washington Tavern. They will participate in a guided tour and a special program where they learn games from the past and dress up to act out a scene from the National Road. Each Girl Scout will receive a booklet with two stories from the past and learn interesting facts to complete the “If These Buildings Could Talk” requirement. By the end of the program they will have completed what they need for the badge. (Badges are the responsibility of the troop.) Make sure to leave some time to visit Fort Necessity, walk through our museum exhibits and see our 20 minute orientation film.

Reservations are required. The program is offered on weekends. A program fee of $20.00 is charged for the first ten girls with each additional girl being $2.00. Adults (age 16 and older) will be charge the $5.00 per person entrance fee.

Tiger Cub - Go See IT
"American Indian Family Life in the 1750s"

Program length: 45 minutes

Tiger Cubs will fulfill Go See IT #1G after completing the program

The boys learn about many aspects of traditional Indian family life including what they ate, where they lived and how they dressed. The boys also participate in making a wampum bracelet.

Reservations are required. The program is offered on weekends. A program fee of $20.00 is charged for the first ten boys. Each additional boy is $2.00. Adults (age 16 and older) pay the $5.00 per person park entrance fee.

"George Washington - Learning to be a Leader"

Program length: 2 hours

This program is being developed by the National Park Service in cooperation with the Westmoreland-Fayette Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

The requirements are designed to help Scouts gain experience and an understanding of the qualities of leadership. The boys and their leader read text, answer questions, and participate in self guided activities all contained in one booklet.

The program themes are leadership and stewardship. As the scouts work through the activities to earn “Washington’s First Battle” patch, they find how young George Washington learned lessons which he used throughout his lifetime as a general and as our first president.
