"Staying Alive: Survival in a Coastal Habitat"
Grades 3-6

To reserve this trunk free of charge, please call 718-354-4530, #223.

This multidisciplinary study examines the coastal habitats of Great Kills Park, a unit of Gateway National Recreation Area. The trunk contains eight explorations. Each exploration includes: lesson objectives; an overview; time estimates; a materials list; key words; quick facts; a teaching sequence rubric; and a list of resources. Students touch and examine skulls, shells, seeds and other specimens found in a coastal environment, integrating science with music and visual arts. Classes culminate their explorations by creating a mural of Great Kills Park. Staying Alive is a collaboration with educators from New York and New Jersey and aligns with standards of both states.
