FBI ACADEMY, LIBRARY UNIT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The FBI Academy Library's mission is to provide access to resources that reflect a broad range of perspectives, viewpoints, and approaches; to provide professional reference services in response to research requests; to provide instruction in the use of resources, with an emphasis on the informed evaluation of information sources; and to promote communication and cooperation among libraries in order to share law enforcement information and resources. The FBI Library serves as an active and involved library and resource center for all 30,000+ FBI employees. The Library's specialized collection of 45,000 items related to criminal justice and law enforcement can be accessed by viewing the online catalog on our website. The Library & Evaluation Analysis Unit offers a full-time, twelve-week internship program. This is a VOLUNTEER Internship Program that brings students to work at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Program Overview

The Library Unit Internship Program offers students pursuing a Master�s degree in Library Science an opportunity to gain valuable work experience in the FBI�s Library. A variety of duties could be assigned based on the special interests and talents of the successful candidate. Options include: working with the special collections; archival work; acquisitions; assisting with informational requests from Academy staff and the law enforcement community; updating and preparing bibliographies; dealing with Government Printing Office documents; managing some circulation functions; planning and implementing web content and design; assisting with bibliographic instruction classes; space planning; cataloging; and other duties. The intern would also be able to take advantage of special presentations, lectures, seminars, and other programs at the FBI Academy during their internship.

All applicants must be enrolled currently in a graduate program working towards a Master�s degree in Library Science.

Work hours are from 8:00am � 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Program Status

The completed Library Unit Internship application package must be received on or before the deadlines noted above. No electronic applications are accepted. Please be aware that the FBI�s mail screening processes can delay the delivery to a specific office. It is strongly recommended that you use Federal Express or a similar express delivery service, particularly if you are sending the application within two weeks of the deadline.
