Welcome!
The NIH American Indian/Alaska Native Employment Program (AIANEP) is one of the Special Emphasis Programs sponsored by the NIH Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity Management. A Special Emphasis Program is an integral part of the Equal Employment Opportunity Program that consists of the Affirmative Employment and Workplace Diversity Programs and also the EEO Discrimination Complaint Process.
The NIH American Indian/Alaska Native Employment Program is part of NIH's effort to address and assist in reversing the underrepresentation and underutilization of American Indians and Alaska Natives at NIH. The NIH AIANEP seeks to recruit talented candidates from outside the NIH; retain, promote, and develop current employees; and create a pipeline for addressing current and future workforce needs; and to educate the NIH community about workplace barriers that may hinder American Indian/Alaska Native employees.

The goals and objectives of the AIANEP are supported by the NIH American Indian/Alaska Native Employee Council (AIANEC). The AIANEC provides NIH employees with an opportunity to explore the culture and heritage of American Indians and Alaska Natives.
The AIANEC provides a network for personal and professional growth for Native American employees at NIH and facilitates improved communication and increased awareness among Council members and the NIH community. We also participate in the NIH Internship Program in recruiting Native American students.
