GE PLANT IN BLOOMINGTON WILL KEEP DOORS OPEN;
Washington, D.C.—GE Consumer & Industrial’s refrigeration plant in Bloomington announced today that their doors will stay open beyond 2010, saving 757 jobs. The plant’s production costs will be cut due to tax credits for American companies manufacturing energy efficient appliances, like the side-by-side refrigerators produced by the Bloomington plant. Congressman Steve Buyer (IN-04) supported the final passage of the energy bill that included the tax credits in December 2007.
SPENDING IS OUT OF CONTROL: STIMULUS SHAM
Washington, D.C.—In a week were Indiana saw its unemployment rate jump to 8.2%, companies announced an additional 75,000 job losses and the economy continuing to slow, the Democrat majority in Congress rammed through a so called “economic stimulus bill” costing taxpayers $825 billion. However, the measure only spends 8% of the funds in 2009 and less than half of the money by the end of next, year causing many to wonder about the focus of the bill.
DELAYING DIGITAL TRANSITION WILL BE COSTLY;
Washington, D.C.—Today, the House of Representatives failed to pass the Senate bill, S. 328, to delay the Digital Television Transition (DTV) until June 12, 2009. The transition from an analog signal to digital signal was on schedule to occur on February 17. Congressman Steve Buyer (IN-04) believes that the country needs to move technology forward and the transition date should remain.
AREA STUDENTS RECEIVE NODS FROM MILITARY ACADEMIES
Washington, D.C.—Today, Congressman Steve Buyer (IN-04) is pleased to announce the appointments of Christopher Teska, a senior at Ben Davis High School, and Nathan McVey, a senior at Bethesda Christian High School, to join the class of 2013 at the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD and the United States Military Academy at West Point, respectively. Congressman Buyer nominated both young men to the Academies.
