Service Academy Appointments:
ACADEMY DAY 2008 The Fourth Annual Georgia Congressional Delegation Spring Academy Day will be on May 10, 2008, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Dobbins Air Reserve Base. Last year we had over 700 young people from around the state meet with representatives from all five service academies. This is a great chance to meet with the academies and have your questions answered. All students 8th grade students and up who may be interested in attending an Academy are encouraged to attend. To attend you must register through Senator Johnny Isakson’s website at http://isakson.senate.gov/academy.htm Please note the deadline for registration is May 2, 2008, at 5:00 p.m. No late registrations will be accepted. This year, we expect an even greater turn out so be sure to register early. Please note, you will not be allowed on base without a photo ID. Acadmeny Appointment Information Each year, Rep. Price nominates individuals from the Sixth District of Georgia to attend one of our nation's service academies. There are five (5) service academies that offer appointments to highly qualified individuals who meet eligibility requirements and are the most competitive in academic performance, physical fitness, medical standards, extracurricular involvement, leadership traits, motivation and aptitude for military service. All service academies, other than the United States Coast Guard Academy, require a nomination from a qualified nominating source in addition to meeting the individual eligibility and entrance requirements for each respective academy. For more information please contact them directly at: United States Coast Guard Academy Admissions Office 31 Mohegan Avenue New London, CT 06320-4195 www.cga.edu General Qualifications Required for Nomination Appointment to a Service Academy must: • You must be a United States Citizen • You must be a legal resident of the Sixth Congressional District of Georgia. • You must be 17, but not yet pass your 23rd birthday on July 1 of the year admitted. • You must be unmarried, not pregnant, and have no legal obligation to support children. • You must have an above average high school or college academic record, and strong performance on the SAT or ACT examinations. • You must be able to pass academy physical requirements and DoDMERB medical examination. • You must be of strong moral character.
Applying to my Office for a Nomination: You may apply to my office for a nomination to all service academies for which you have an interest. Please click here to download the application instruction and form. All of the information requested is required in order for your application package to be complete. Submit your application materials by mail no sooner than April 1, 2008, and no later than October 10, 2008. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS OR APPLICATION PACKAGES RECEIVED AFTER OCTOBER 10, 2008, WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. Please mail complete application packages to my District Office only.
